BREAKING NEWS

Former President's Cup player Bradley Hughes has committed to play in the inaugural 2010 United States Match Play Championship, to be held June 29-July 3 at Pebble Creek Country Club in Taylors, South Carolina, just outside Greenville.  To date, Hughes is the highest-profile player to commit to the event.

In 1994, Hughes, originally from Australia, was named to the President's Cup team in 1994, representing the International team.  A former PGA Tour Player, Hughes also played on the Nationwide Tour, winning the 2004 Wichita Open.  He also is a two-time champion of the prestigious Australian Masters, winning in 1993 and 1998.

The Championship

A full field will consist of 128 players competing in two-round stroke play qualifier on Tuesday, June 29, and Wednesday, June 30. The low 32 will advance to the match play portion of the Championship. In case of a tie for the 32nd spot, a sudden-death playoff will commence immediately following play on Wednesday. Only those who qualify for the match play portion in a full-field event will be in the money.

In the event that fewer 128 enter the Championship, a two-round stroke play qualifier will still be held on Tuesday and Wednesday. In case of a tie for the final qualifying spot, a sudden-death playoff will commence immediately following play on Wednesday. All who qualify for match play will be in the money. The number of match play qualifiers is as follows:

Number of Entrants
Number of Match Play Qualifiers
32-48 12 (Top 4 qualifiers receive first-round byes*)
49-64 16
65-96 24 (Top 8 qualifiers receive first-round byes*)
97-128 32

* Ties for the 12th or 24th spot will be broken by sudden-death playoff. All other ties for seeding purposes will be broken by scorecard playoff, #18 backwards, Wednesday's round.
