Starting the Backswing

The purpose of the backswing is to create energy to hit the ball. The clubhead should move slowly away from the ball on a straight line for several inches before starting to rise. The left arm is extended and serves as the radius of the backswing. The movement and weight of the club should allow the wrists to cock naturally.
